| Eight projects employing solar energy systems have been given a government grant as part of the Major Photovoltaic (PV) Demonstration programme. The projects are varied and cover public sector and commercial ventures. Brian Wilson, Energy Minister commented; "Solar power is turning into a real energy source for the UK. These eight new projects add to the hundreds of solar houses and buildings which the Government has already helped get off the ground. There are now a whole range of buildings, from leisure centres and schools to business parks and modern flats which have the new high tech photovoltaic roofs. It is now crucial that British manufacturers of solar equipment start to build a supply chain for the growing solar market. I want to ensure that the UK revolution in renewable energy brings with it UK jobs." The £1.32m grant represents the opening exchange of the £20m programme. |
